Constructed variables

All our constructed are based on a child-perspective. Therefore, we mostly focus on household’s characteristics instead of household members individually.

To simplify, all answers “refuses to answer” are treated as missing observations.

Document constructed variables, maternity, 2 months and 1 year

All variables you need for the construction

Static variables are built using information from particular chosen waves (maternity and 2 months / maternity, 2 months and 1 year) in order to obtain the most completed variables as possible (for instance, place of birth). Dynamic variables are built separately from each wave (for example, family situation at birth, family situation at 2 months, family situation at 1 year). As a result, the maternity and 2 months code presents dynamic variables till 2 months, while the maternity, 2 months and 1 year do-file includes dynamic variables till 1 year. The difference between the two previously proposed codes is the waves used in the construction of variables.

The variable Migrant Status of parents is the result of an imputation process. Therefore, the development explanation is proposed separately from the original document. To download the document, click here.
